Extruded tubes of clay finished with rings of jute. The idea was to present a bamboo look and feel with an obvious clay feel. These pieces look best in groups of three or more.
Hand Built Vase
This hand built vase was glazed by over-dipping two opposite corners with a cobalt blue and a crimson red to create additional vertical lines to make the piece appealing from many angles.
Loop Plate
Many of my pieces are influenced by traditional Japanese pottery styles and techniques. The loop on this plate allows for additional creativity with added materials and displayed on a wall.
Raku Vase
This piece was produce by joining two extruded square tubes. The Raku glaze is a traditional alligator mix that is designed not to fully mature at a normal Raku firing temps true, leaving the piece with a rough surface texture. The high copper concentration in the glaze produces the multiple hues.
Small Jar
I often produce jars of many shapes and sizes and they are extremely popular. This small jar is glazed with eggplant purple then accented with a crimson on the rim.
Etched Vase
After throwing these pieces I let them sit until they are firm though soft enough for scoring and cutting. During the glazing process I add contrasting colors to the carved impression areas.
